Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has criticised a section of Manchester United fans for directing abusive chants at midfielder Phil Foden during the 0-0 Premier League draw between the two rivals on Sunday.
The Spanish coach expressed his disappointment over the taunts Foden endured throughout the match, some of which reportedly involved derogatory remarks about the England international’s mother.
In his post-match interview, Guardiola condemned the behaviour, calling it a disgrace and a reflection of poor character.
Guardiola said, “Lack of class. But it’s not United, it’s the people, you know? We are so exposed on screens in world football – managers, owners, and football players especially.
“Honestly, I don’t understand the mindset of the people who involved Phil’s mum; it is a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed.”
Foden, who had a relatively quiet performance at Old Trafford, was substituted in the second half and replaced by Jeremie Doku.
