England captain Harry Kane confessed he was “surprised” at the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as new manager.
Tuchel took over from Gareth Southgate in October 2024.
Kane has now revealed that he “didn’t expect it” as he had never considered the former Bayern Munich manager as a national team boss.
Tuchel is England’s third foreign manager, and the position is his first on an international scale.
The German will be in charge until the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
When asked how he felt upon hearing the news of his reunion with Tuchel, Kane said this:
“I was surprised, if I’m honest. Yeah, I didn’t expect it.
“I guess I just hadn’t really thought of him as a national team coach.
“But yeah, once it was announced, I was really excited because I had the pleasure of working with him last year, and I know what he can bring. I knew what he could bring to this type of squad that we have.”
