LaLiga: Yamal Sets Records with Barcelona Hat-Trick against Villarreal

Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal set two records on Saturday evening after netting a hat-trick in his team’s 4-1 LaLiga win over Villarreal.

OptaJose reports that Yamal is now among the youngest players in the 21st century to score their first LaLiga hat-trick, achieving the milestone at just 18 years and 230 days old.

Previous youngest scorers include Gio dos Santos (19 years and 6 days) against Murcia in May 2008, and Santi Mina (19 years and 125 days) against Rayo Vallecano in April 2015.

Yamal’s Villarreal hat-trick also takes his LaLiga tally to 26 goals in 95 appearances, making him the first player in Europe’s top five leagues in the 21st century to reach 25 goals before turning 19.

He will now aim to guide Barcelona to success when they face Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Tuesday.
