Paris 2024 Olympics: Senator Ireti Kingibe Hails D’Tigress

Ireti Kingibe, a Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, has hailed Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their performance at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Kingibe stated that despite a 74-88 quarter-final loss to the United States, D’Tigress’ performance in the face of adversity exemplifies Nigerians’ collective unwavering spirit.

“Your fearless and gallant performance in the face of adversity exemplifies our collective unwavering spirit.” Your rise like a phoenix in the fourth quarter against the wealthiest and most highly invested squad was a master class in tenacity,” she stated.

While commemorating the D’Tigress, Kingibe emphasized the significance of cultural legacy, citing the National Arts Theatre in Lagos as a symbol of the country’s rich history and artistic expression.

She stated, “The National Arts Theatre in Lagos held FESTAC ’77, one of Africa’s major art, cultural, and music festivals, and every detail of this historic edifice should represent that legacy. In the basement of the National Arts Theatre lies a treasure trove of artistic expression worth billions of naira, with art works showcasing our beloved country’s unique cultural heritage.”

The senator called on the creative economy and tourism industries to document, preserve, and protect the relics for future generations.

As a result, she requested that everyone work together to promote cultural heritage, encourage artists and athletes, and realize the full potential of the nation’s creative economy.

“We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to conserve and cherish our rich cultural heritage, just as we commemorate the accomplishments of our heroes. Together, we can create a fantastic future that honors our past and inspires our future,” she said.
