The former Napoli sports manager, Mauro Meluso, said that the club president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, turned down an offer described as ‘pharaonic’ from Paris Saint-Germain to sell Victor Osimhen last year.
Meluso explained that De Laurentiis would have refused an offer from PSG out of attachment to the Nigerian international.
Osimhen has been linked with a transfer away from Napoli ahead of the end of the summer window at the close of this week.
Interest has also come from the likes of PSG, Chelsea, and Arsenal, and even as far afield as Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli.
“I arrived in mid-July, he was already there; It was a very high offer from one of the most important teams in Europe, an indispensable offer rejected by President De Laurentiis, perhaps also due to too much love,” Meluso explained to Kiss Kiss, a radio station.
“The team was Paris Saint-Germain, and an offer as big as the pyramids was refused-which to me was indispensable-President De Laurentiis made a mistake because he loved and was passionate about too much. Then when I arrived, negotiations for the renewal started, and you have now one problem.
