ASUU Suspends Strike at Sokoto State University, Academic Activities Resume

The Sokoto State University (SSU) branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has formally suspended its indefinite strike, allowing academic activities to resume with immediate effect.

The move was made at a congress meeting that took place on Thursday at Lecture Hall 2, Faculty of Arts. Members of ASUU had in attendance to discuss the result of a conciliation meeting that took place between the Sokoto State Government and the ASUU leadership on March 4, 2025.

Following long deliberations of the government’s proposals, the members of the unions cast their votes to call off the strike. The ASUU National Executive Council then approved the decision.

ASUU SSU Secretary Hassan Aliyu and Chair Saidu Abubakar ratified the decision, ordering all academic members of staff to resume work immediately.

The February 26, 2025, walkout was triggered by pending issues of concern over the state government. Although details of the agreement remain unclear, suspension marks a breakthrough towards meeting the union’s demands.

With this development, students and teachers at SSU can now return to normal school activities following weeks of turmoil.
