On Friday, President Bola Tinubu appointed Prof. Attahiru Jega, a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as Presidential Adviser and Coordinator of Presidential Livestock Reforms.
This was confirmed by Tinubu’s media adviser, Bayo Onanuga, using his verified X account.
“Breaking: President Bola Tinubu appoints Professor Attahiru Jega as Presidential Adviser and Coordinator of Presidential Livestock Reforms,” Onanuga wrote on his blog.
Jega served as INEC’s chairman from 2010 to 2015.
Tinubu formed the Ministry of Livestock Development in July 2024 to provide sector-specific answers to the long-standing farmer-herder conflict.
Following a recommendation from the National Livestock Reforms Committee, the Ministry of Livestock Resources is expected to, among other things, reduce the decades-long violent conflict between farmers and nomadic cattle herders across the country.
