Nigerian producer and music executive Sarz, whose real name is Osabuohien Osaretin, has discussed the adverse effects of poor infrastructure, particularly unreliable electricity on Nigeria’s creative industry.
In a recent appearance on the Afropolitan Podcast, Sarz highlighted how the lack of electricity during moments of inspiration can lead to wasted creative potential.
The 36-year-old noted that despite being born and raised in Nigeria, he has never experienced uninterrupted 24-hour electricity in the country.
“I was born and raised in this country and I have never experienced electricity for 24 hours. There are times when I wake up feeling inspired and I want to create music but there is not light. Sometimes, even when you want to buy fuel, they will tell that there is a strike or scarcity. And then you end up doing not nothing and the potential just waste,” he said.
“As a creative person, you need to be mentally charged to perform at your best. So, when the infrastructure is lacking the moment you are mentally charged, it is a challenge,” Sarz added.
He further emphasised that adequate infrastructure is crucial for the growth of the entertainment industry, noting that the lack of reliable facilities continues to limit Nigeria’s creative sector.
