10 Dead In Russia Petrol Station Blast

A blast at a petrol station in Russia’s Caucasus republic of Dagestan has killed at least ten people, including two children, on Friday.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations said the blast near the capital Makhachkala injured 11 others.

The explosion tore through the station, marring the building with a fire that burned 500 square meters of space to cinders, engulfing the technical section and the cafeteria.

There was a rapid response by the emergency services as over 120 rescuers were dispatched to the site. The fire was later brought under control, although the authorities still reported it was not completely extinguished late on Friday.

The cause of the blast is yet to be known. Preliminary reports by the ministry showed five people dead and three others injured before the toll was revised.

“The station’s building is destroyed.

The technical area and the cafeteria are burning over a surface of 500 square metres.” The ministry posted on Telegram.

Incidents like that are not rare in Russia, where safety violations and poor infrastructure are factors contributing to frequent accidents.

In August 2023, another blast at a filling station in the same region killed 37 people and injured 119.
