Out of the 1,972 women examined for cervical cancer in Adamawa State, 165 were found to be positive.
This was disclosed on Tuesday during a state task force on primary health care meeting organised by the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency at the Government House in Yola.
The Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, said that the 165 women who were identified as positive cases will be subjected to further examination so that they could be given necessary care.
She said the state task group on primary health care met with state and non-state actors to review the achievements and challenges of the latest routine immunization exercise, carried out from January to July 2024. Farauta praised the success of the Cervical Cancer Awareness Creation and screening across the state’s 21 local governments.
The committee also discussed the recent outbreak of acute watery diarrhoea, which killed at least four people in Yola North.
The deputy governor charged health staff to mount an immediate response to the outbreak and urged all other stakeholders to assume their responsibilities.
Idris Yahaya, secretary of the Adamawa State chapter of ALGON, addressed newsmen, stating that local government chairmen remained committed to uplifting the health and wellbeing of the people.
