The National Center for Seismology (NCS) has reported that a strong earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck Afghanistan on Saturday afternoon at 12:17 PM IST.
The earthquake’s epicentre was located at 36.10 degrees North latitude and 71.20 degrees East longitude, with a depth of 130 kilometers.
Tremors from the earthquake were felt in several northern regions of India, including Jammu and Kashmir and the Delhi-NCR area.
Although there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries, authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
The NCS confirmed the seismic activity with a post on the social media platform X.
This follows a similar tremor earlier in the week.
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded on Wednesday in Afghanistan, with its epicentre located about 164 km east of Baghlan.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) initially reported the quake as having a magnitude of 6.4 but later revised it to 5.6.
