The Imo State House of Assembly has formed a committee to investigate a petition filed by the House’s Deputy Minority Leader, Clinton Amadi, against the State’s Chief Justice, Justice Theresa Chikeka, alleging age falsification.
The lawmaker, who represents Owerri Municipal Council, presented the petition on the House floor, stating that he received the complaint against the Chief Justice from Ndubuisi Onyema, the director of a civil society organisation called Investigation for Safe Society Platform.
According to the legislator, the organization’s director has urged the House to investigate the report as soon as possible in order to take appropriate measures.
He stated that the petition informed him that in every institution when such an allegation is made, swift action is taken, but he questioned why the State Chief Judge’s situation would be any different.
Recognizing the petition during the plenary, which was presided over by Deputy Speaker Chyna Amara Iwuanyanwu, the House formed a three-man committee, led by Orlu Constituency member Ikenna Ihezuo, to investigate the matter and present its findings on the House floor within two weeks.
