Department of State Services (DSS) has also arrested Comrade Usman Okai Austin, a former representative in the House of Representatives from the Dekina/Bassa federal constituency.
Activist politician and human rights crusader Omoyele Sowore revealed DSS operatives raided Okai in his home in a gestapo-style on Wednesday.
Sowore shared on X that the arrest of Okai was based on him passing judgment against the Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo.
Sowore wrote: “Imagine how these lawless @OfficialDSSNG mercenaries are abducting, torturing, and dehumanizing a Nigerian citizen, @Austinokai just because he expresses himself against illegitimate Gov. Ododo of Kogi State. #RevolutionNow #FreeAustinOkaiNow
“Lawless @OfficialDSSNG at it again. They must release @Austinokai immediately, with no room for govt security agencies acting as mercenary for corrupt, unscrupulous and illegitimate political hacks such as Ododo, Yahaya Bello and co! #FreeAustinOkaiNow.”
Okai has been very vocal against the alleged ills of Ododo’s administration.
Recently, Okai charged Ododo to curb what he described as the “unchecked and excessive powers” of the state’s Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko.
Okai accused the accountant general of overstepping her constitutional role, alleging financial mismanagement and undue interference in governance.
He said the accountant generals “cabal has taken over” Ododo’s administration.
