The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, granted a N10 million bail to ten #endbadgovernance protesters accused of attempting to remove President Bola Ahmed Tinubu between July 1 and August 4.
Justice Emeka Nwite granted them bail while ruling on their various bail applications.
Among other conditions, the protesters are to provide one surety each for the same amount, while the sureties must be residents of Abuja.
In addition, the sureties must be owners of Abuja property who shall deposit property records with the court while taking an affidavit of means.
Furthermore, the defendants and the sureties are to surrender their international passports and three recent passport photographs to the court.
Justice Nwite, in dismissing objections to the bail application by the Inspector General of Police, ordered the defendants not to attend any public rally for the duration of their trial.
The Judge ordered that they be committed to prison custody pending the fulfillment of their various bail conditions.
Meanwile, the substantive trial has been slated for September 27.
The defendants were said to have committed the alleged offence of treason during a one-week statewide rally where the accused persons declared war on Nigeria.
The offence, the Police said runs in contravention of sections 96, 410 and 413 of the Penal Code.
The charges brought against them by the Inspector General of Police, IGP, accused the suspects of breaking into the Abacha Army Barracks and publicly calling on the military to take over the constitutional administration of President Tinubu.
He further alleged that they attempted to force their way into the seat of power, burning down a police station and injuring officers.
They were also said to have incited the Nigerian populace against the government and burnt many properties belonging to the public, which include a police station, a high court complex, and National Communication Commission facilities, among others.
The accused are Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye, Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Opaluwa Eleojo Simon, Angel Love Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello Nurudeen Khamis and Abduldalam Zubair.
