German Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Miguel Berger, has stated that the European Union (EU) is prepared to retaliate against U.S. President Donald Trump’s recently imposed 20% tariffs on EU countries.
Trump had announced the tariffs targeting nations like France and Germany as part of broader efforts to dismantle the global trading system.
Speaking to Sky News on Sunday, Ambassador Berger emphasized the EU’s readiness to respond while expressing a desire to avoid escalating tensions.
“We are prepared to retaliate,” Berger said, highlighting the EU’s position as a market of 450 million people and the United States’ largest source of foreign investment.
“We have a lot to bring to the table. We want to avoid this trade war,” he added.
