The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has promoted four Group Captains to the high rank of Air Commodore for their exceptional dedication and loyalty to the service.
AVM Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information of the NAF, stated this on Tuesday in Abuja.
Gabkwet stated that the officers, who would also begin their retirement from the NAF immediately, were decorated with their new ranks in front of their families, friends, and colleagues by Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS).
He stated that the officers’ promotions, which occurred outside of the usual promotion path, demonstrated their significant contributions to both the NAF and the nation.
According to him, among the officers is Air Commodore John Opara, who was recognized for his exceptional performance as an insightful administrative officer.
“The ceremony also highlighted the careers of two NAF Chaplains and Imam, Air Commodores Okechukwu Godson Okoye, David Ajar Ahmadu, and Tahir Bin-Isah.”
In his remarks, Air Marshal Abubakar, CAS, praised the officers for their remarkable dedication and the great influence they have had on the NAF.
Abubakar stated that Opara’s unwavering dedication and major efforts were acknowledged, reinforcing the concept that ‘delay is not denial’.
He regarded the officer as one of the few highly experienced, energetic, and adaptable administrative officers who made important and outstanding contributions to the achievement of NAF operational goals.
The CAS further stated that two chaplains and the Iman were in charge of promoting unity and mutual respect among people of different religions both within and outside the service.
He stated that their dedication to the emotional and spiritual well-being of NAF personnel was recognized as a pillar of the organization’s moral strength.
“As you embark on this next chapter of your lives, know that your legacies will survive. “The lives you have touched and the great contributions you have made will continue to resound within our Air Force family,” he said.
The CAS also used the opportunity to recognize the tremendous assistance of their spouses, families, and friends, whose unflinching love, patience, and encouragement have been critical to the officers’ professional success.
He then implored them to realize that their sacrifices have been recognized, and their contributions are profoundly valued, even as they enter retirement.
