Fatal Accident on Third Mainland Bridge: Speeding in Heavy Rain Claims Life

One person tragically lost their life in an accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Saturday morning.

The crash, involving a Mini Truck (MUS 489 XS) and a Toyota Camry (KRD 470 JD), was attributed to excessive speeding amid a heavy downpour, according to a statement from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

Mr. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, relayed through Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, that three other individuals were rescued at the scene.

LASTMA officials quickly responded to the incident, which took place near the Unilag waterfront, heading toward the Iyana-Oworonshoki area.

Despite the government’s ongoing efforts to educate motorists on speed limits, Giwa noted that many drivers continue to violate the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

He urged both commercial and private drivers to adhere to speed regulations on the Third Mainland Bridge and throughout the state.

The deceased was removed by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), and LASTMA cleared the vehicles to restore traffic flow on the bridge.

Giwa offered his condolences to the bereaved family and underscored the critical importance of road safety.
