Fire Outbreak Destroys 45 Homes in Jigawa

A devastating late-night fire has ravaged Batakashi village in Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State, leaving behind severe destruction.

The blaze, which occurred on Friday night, destroyed more than 45 houses, 35 silos, and numerous livestock, displacing residents and causing widespread damage.

Eyewitness Malam Musa reported that the fire also left three people injured. He described the scene as overwhelming, with many families losing their homes, food reserves, clothing, and valuable belongings in the flames.

“Everything happened so fast. Many people couldn’t salvage anything. Livestock perished in the flames and our silos are gone,” Musa shared, his voice filled with emotion.

While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, local authorities have started evaluating the extent of the damage. On Saturday, Hon. Adamu Hudu Kore, the Chairman of Garki Local Government Area, visited the affected village to express condolences and offer initial support.

“We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident. The local council is working closely with emergency agencies to provide immediate relief to the victims,” Kore stated during his visit.

At the same time, the Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed it has not yet received an official report regarding the fire. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, stated:

“We are aware of the situation and are awaiting a detailed report from our officers on the ground. Further information will be provided once investigations commence.”
