FRSC Confirms 4 Dead in Ebonyi Transport Bus Accident in Abia

The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Abia State Command, had reported that four people died when a fatal motor accident involving Ebonyi Transport Corporation commercial bus took place.

On March 7, 2025, the accident happened about 2:10 p.m. on Umuahia-Enugu Expressway near Ohiya Mechanic Village, just off Abia Tower.

In a statement issued on Saturday, FRSC’s Abia Sector Commander, Ngozi Ezeoma, revealed that the accident involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with number plate 14B41EB that carried 18 passengers—11 men and seven women.

“One female passenger died on the spot, while 17 others were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, for treatment. Sadly, three more victims—two men and one woman—later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total fatalities to four,” Ezeoma said.

She blamed the accident on over-speeding and a burst tire, which caused the vehicle to roll several times.

“Preliminary investigations point to these factors, but further probes are ongoing to determine the exact cause,” she added.

The Sector Commander offered his condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for the well-being of those injured soon. She reiterated FRSC’s commitment to curbing road accidents in the state and appealed to motorists to comply with traffic regulations in order to avert unnecessary accidents.

Meanwhile, witnesses gave varying accounts of the accident, some laying blame on the driver’s dozing off because of tiredness while others pointed fingers at brake failure.
