Pakistani police reported on Thursday that gunmen opened fire on a school bus, killing two girls and injured five others.
Usman Haider, a police official, stated that the incident occurred in the town of Attock in the central province of Punjab as the children were on their way to school in the morning, and that all of the deceased and injured children were between the ages of five and ten.
According to him, the motivation for the crime was not immediately apparent, but preliminary investigations pointed to a conflict between two families.
“We are also looking into the possibility of terrorism,” Mr. Haider stated.
Meanwhile, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari issued a statement condemning the crime and urging police to apprehend the gunman.
Islamist militants have previously assaulted students in schools, colleges, and universities.
In 2014, Taliban terrorists slaughtered over 150 children in a brutal attack on a military-run school in northwestern Pakistan.
