Taiwan Court Sentences Military Members for Leaking Secrets to China

On Thursday, eight retired and serving members of Taiwan’s military were sentenced to up to 13 years in jail for leaking classified information to China.

According to NAN, the Taiwan High Court sentenced the eight defendants to between a year and a half and 13 years for crimes such as breaking the National Security Law.

The offense also involved transmitting classified information and taking bribes.

They can still appeal.

The issue involves the Taiwanese Army’s Aviation and Special Forces Command, which served as Taiwan’s special operations force.

According to prosecutors, some defendants collaborated with China to create a video titled “I Will Surrender to the People’s Liberation Army” in which they professed allegiance to Beijing.

The video was sent to China in exchange for cash.

The case involved ten people in total.

Aside from the eight guilty verdicts, one individual was acquitted, while another failed to appear for trial and is wanted for arrest.
