A 22-year-old housewife named Zainab Isa has been taken into custody by the Yobe State Police Command for allegedly fatally stabbing her husband.
Dungus Abdulkarim, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, announced the arrest in a statement released Wednesday in Damaturu, the state capital.
According to Abdulkarim, Zainab Isa is accused of stabbing her 25-year-old husband, Ibrahim Yahaya, with a knife in their Abbari ward residence after an argument.
During the preliminary investigation, Isa reportedly confessed, stating that she acted in self-defense and had no intention of killing her husband. She claimed he was beating and kicking her despite her recent recovery from a medical operation following childbirth.
“The command is deeply saddened by the tragic events that led to the loss of a young man’s life, a consequence of an abusive marriage,” Abdulkarim said.
He further detailed that on June 26, 2024, a neighbor alerted the C Divisional Police Headquarters about the couple’s dispute. The argument, which began around 9:00 am, escalated into a violent confrontation.
“Zainab Isa stabbed her husband in the chest, and he succumbed to his injuries before the police could intervene,” Abdulkarim added.
