Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the posting of newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police to some of the major divisions of the Nigeria Police Force.
The move, issued on Sunday on its X account and signed by the Force Public Relations Officers, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, is part of efforts at maximising the experience of these top officers as well as streamlining the operational effectiveness of the force in addressing the growing security challenges.
According to a statement released by the Police Force, the new DIGs would be overseeing very crucial divisions such as criminal investigations, intelligence, and operations.
“The deployments aim to optimise their experience and expertise, enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening the Force’s ability to tackle evolving security challenges,” the official statement read.
Specifically, DIG Sadiq Idris Abubakar has been assigned to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, while DIG Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo will now lead the Force Intelligence Department. DIG Williams Adebowale takes charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology, and DIG Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi assumes leadership of the Department of Operations.
Other key assignments include DIG Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, heading the Department of Logistics and Supply and DIG Idegwu Basil Okuoma, leading the Department of Research and Planning (R&P). Additionally, DIG Sahabo Abubakar Yahaya has been reassigned to head the Department of Finance and Administration.
“According to the posting directive,” the statement continued, outlining each new assignment.
The IG expressed strong confidence in the leadership capabilities of the newly posted DIGs, emphasising the strategic importance of these appointments.
“The Inspector-General of Police has expressed confidence in the leadership capabilities of the senior officers, emphasizing that these appointments will further enhance the effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement reiterated.
The reorganisation is seen as a strategic move to bolster the police force’s ability to address the multifaceted security challenges facing the nation.
“By placing experienced officers in key positions, the IGP aims to improve the overall performance and efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force”, the statement read.
