The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected car thief, Alhassan Isa, also known as Tata.
The Shuwarin indigenous person of Kiyawa Local Government Area was found in his possession a Mazda 323 Model F registration number MNA 139HK that was stolen in Niger State.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Dutse, the Jigawa State Command Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, revealed that the vehicle owner, Abdurrahman Sadiq, an employee of the Nigerian Institute of Oil Palm Research, reported the incident to the Dutse Division on February 21, 2025.
Sadiq parked his vehicle in Aujara village of the Jahun Local Government Area and forgot to take the key with him. When he woke up the next morning, his car was nowhere to be seen,” the statement added.
Early investigations revealed that the vehicle was stolen from where it was parked by an unknown person or individuals.
Dutse Division detectives and State Criminal Investigation Department conducted the probe, after which the suspect was apprehended.
The PPRO indicated the suspect had confessed to the offence during interrogation. The suspect, Alhassan Isa, was also a past convicted felon who had motorcycle and tricycle snatching charges.
The suspect would still be arraigned and subject to the court process, confirmed SP Adam.
“We will see that justice is served in this matter,” Adam told me.
The Jigawa State Police Command has warned motorists in the state to be cautious and take precautionary measures against theft.
The command asked motorists to always lock their vehicles and conceal valuables.
The police also urged members of the public to report any suspicious activity or stolen vehicles to the police.
Furthermore, the Jigawa Police Force informed the public of their dedication to stopping crime and ensuring public safety.
