Justin Trudeau Steps Down as Canadian Prime Minister

Justin Trudeau has officially stepped down as Prime Minister of Canada, bringing an end to nearly a decade in power.

Trudeau resigned on Friday, fulfilling an announcement he made in January, when polls suggested that his Liberal Party was heading toward a likely defeat in the upcoming election.

However, recent developments have seen the party’s fortunes improve, particularly amid growing Canadian opposition to Donald Trump and his policies.

In a farewell message shared on X on Friday, Trudeau expressed his gratitude to the nation, saying:

“Thank you, Canada – for trusting in me, for challenging me, and for granting me the privilege to serve the best country, and the best people, on earth.”

With Trudeau’s exit, Mark Carney has been sworn in as Canada’s new Prime Minister, stepping into leadership at a critical time. The nation is currently grappling with questions about its sovereignty amid tensions with US President Donald Trump, alongside an ongoing trade war with the United States, its largest trading partner.
