The Network of Peace Journalists (NPJ), in collaboration with the Conflict Mitigation and Management Regional Council (CMMRC) and Community Peace Observers (CPO), called for peaceful elections across all 23 local government units in the state.
Ibrahima Yakubu, team lead of NPJ, said unity among all stakeholders is required for a peaceful electoral process throughout the state.
He added that “politicians should work towards engendering peace and harmony among the populace, as well as encouraging the citizens to be involved in active participation by voting for credible candidates.”
The message called on the youths not to engage in violence, thuggery, or any form of evil before, during, and after the elections to keep the state peaceful.
The statement called on the religious leaders to join continuous prayers for peaceful elections and expressed stress on the need to ensure protection for journalists in this period.
The group asked the citizenry not to rely on unofficial election results being spread on social media and called on the Electoral Commission to ensure timely delivery of voting materials to the polling stations.
The stakeholders called on the citizens to be patriotic enough to shun vote-buying and involvement of minors in both campaigns and elections.
