Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has promised the victims of the recent Lakurawa attacks in Arewa Local Government Area that his government will make haste to reintegrate them into their communities.
Idris vowed on Wednesday during a condolence call at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Kangiwa, where he lamented the loss of life and property. The camp currently houses families who were forced out of Birnin Debe, Dan Marke, and Tambo villages, which were recently attacked by armed men last Saturday, and 11 were killed and one hamlet burnt down.
Yahaya Sarki, Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, explained the visit by Idris was to console the victims and personally verify the situation in a bid to convince the government reaction.
The governor praised the security authorities for trying to contain the crisis, but complained of frequent invasions by Sokoto State and Niger Republic.
“To support the displaced persons, I announced the immediate provision of 100 additional bags each of rice and millet, along with a cow to be slaughtered for sustenance every four to five days,” Idris stated.
He also lauded the Arewa Local Government Chairman for swiftly setting up the IDP camp as directed.
