Kwara LG Polls: NSCDC Deploys 3,000 Personnel

The Kwara State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Umar Mohammed, said on Friday he had deployed close to 3,000 operatives for the council elections scheduled for Saturday across the 16 local government areas in the state.

Dr Umar said the personnel were drawn from the State Command, Area Commands and Divisional Offices in each of the 16 council districts.

The commandant said, in a press statement made available to journalists in Ilorin on Thursday by the command’s image maker, Ayoola Michael Shola, that the deployed officers would man all the designated polling locations and collaborate with sister security agencies in ensuring that the election scheduled for 21st September 2024 is hitch-free.

“Our utmost concern is to ensure we provide an enabling environment for the election to be conducted peacefully devoid of violence, intimidation, ballot snatching, and other destructive tendencies,” he said.

Umar said the NSCDC would not tolerate political thuggery, violence, or hooliganism. Such attempts at disrupting the electoral process will be dealt with promptly and effectively.

He said, “The personnel have been comprehensively briefed and will team up with other sister security agencies at the polling stations.” The patrols in the state will be increased by the special forces among them Operation Harmony, the Counter-Terrorism Unit, and the Female Squad.

“Also, police officers from the Anti-Vandal Unit and the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Department will be deployed, who shall monitor and guard all government assets to ensure they are not vandalized during the election.”

Umar implored political parties and citizens to extend full cooperation with the security apparatus to eschew any act likely to put the peaceful conduct of polls in jeopardy.
