Lagos State House of Assembly lawmakers have praised Speaker Mojisola Meranda’s performance and leadership in the Assembly, praising her diligence and contribution in her short tenure.
Meranda was sworn in on January 13, 2025, following the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who is said to be reinstated.
Despite her short tenure, lawmakers praised her ability to conduct and maintain a healthy environment in the Assembly.
In the plenary session that opened around 2:20 p.m., Aro Moshood (Oshodi-Isolo I) welcomed the laudatory session, terming Meranda’s leadership “life-transforming and positively so.”
Despite the problems of transition, he applauded her leadership approach.
Kehinde Joseph (Alimosho II) seconded the praises, pointing out Meranda’s humility and resilience, saying, “You have made history with your resilience and humility. Your time may be limited, but you have written your name in gold.”
Other MPs shared similar views, pointing out her commitment to legislative excellence and consensus.
They also recognized her efforts towards maintaining order and stability in the House at a time of political uncertainty.
While rumors of Obasa’s likely return as Speaker persist, Meranda’s leadership has made its impact on colleagues who have praised her for maintaining the dignity of the House.
David Setonji, representing Badagry II, said, “Her tenure, though brief, has been marked by efficiency, collaboration, and a commitment to legislative duties, earning her the respect of her fellow lawmakers.”
