A three-story building collapsed in the Lekki part of Lagos and claimed two lives while rescuing six people.
This was announced on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, in Lagos.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the immediate cause of the collapse is still to be determined and that further investigations will be conducted.
LASEMA stated, as per its protocol, that its Response Teams have initiated Search and Rescue operations, while Lagos Rail Transport is collaborating with other mutual stakeholders to ensure a successful intervention at the site of the event.
“To date, two adult males have been rescued from the rubble of the collapsed structure. The LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit rescued six badly injured adult males and administered emergency medical treatment prior to taking them to Marina General Hospital for treatment, according to the statement.”.
It further stated that the Agency’s heavy-duty equipment (excavator) was deployed to the incident scene and remains operational, in addition to light and heavy-duty equipment for the Search and Rescue operation.
