Nigeria Police Bust Illegal Refinery In Rivers State

Operatives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB) has also destroyed an illegal petroleum refinery in Rivers State.

In a statement issued on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the operation happened on Thursday when operatives of IGP-STFPIB, in collaboration with officers attached to the Command in Rivers State raided the Trans Amadi area of Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

This, according to the statement, was following a tip that there was a storage facility in the area used to deal with and process illegally acquired crude oil.

Olumuyiwa explained that at least four persons were arrested in connection with the crime, stating that about 40,000 liters of petroleum products were confiscated from 67 white storage tanks.

The suspects are Emmanuel Nwachi, Adamu Bala, Nura Musa, and Bashir Abubakar.

“But the team razed the place of operation and recovered some equipment and machines used to perpetrate these crimes.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM., has restated the commitment of the Force to combating all acts of crime, criminality, and corruption, including the ones implicated in the economic sabotage. “The Force is not moving away from this resolve and will continue to bring these perpetrators to justice,” the statement said.
