The Nigeria Police Force has announced its intention to push for changes aimed at resolving the pension and welfare difficulties facing former officers.

The release noted that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, held a meeting with a group of retired personnel to go over concerns regarding their retirement pay and gratuities.
He characterized the current hurdles in the pension system as urgent, mentioning that work is underway to establish permanent fixes.
The police leader also detailed a plan to ensure the retirees’ points are passed along to the right departments, which includes speaking directly with the Federal Government.
“The Inspector General of Police outlined two distinct avenues to ensure retirees’ grievances reach the highest levels of government,” the statement read.
He further promised that those who have served would be permitted to voice their complaints through peaceful means, with police protection provided if required.
Additionally, the report mentioned that the Force is looking into ways to give preference to the children of retired members during upcoming recruitment drives.
Disu, however, highlighted how important it is to maintain the welfare and honor of those who have finished their service, affirming that the Force remains dedicated to its own even after they hang up the uniform.
