Nigeria to Receive Cholera Vaccines Soon, Says Gavi CEO

Nigeria will soon receive cholera vaccines, according to a statement released on Friday by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, or Gavi.

Sania Nishtar, the CEO of Gavi, affirmed this in a statement posted on his X page.

He states that GAVI is prepared to collaborate with UNICEF and WHO, its partners, in order to help contain the current outbreak.

“We are ready to collaborate with our partners, UNICEF and WHO, to support Minister Muhammad Pate of Nigeria’s federal ministry of health, and the NCDC’s urgent efforts to contain this outbreak and protect those most vulnerable.

“Despite the large number of cholera outbreaks this year, our stockpile is now fully replenished, and production continues at maximum capacity,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, 3,623 suspected cholera cases and 103 deaths have been reported in 34 states across Nigeria.
