Nigerian Army Recovers 1,913 Weapons in Taraba

The 6th Brigade of the Nigerian Army has recovered 1,913 weapons in its areas of operation in the last one year.

The revelation was made on Thursday at the Brigade headquarters in Jalingo, the state capital, when Major General Eyitayo Folusho Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven Commander, visited.

Brigade Commander Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, who spoke via Brigade spokesman Captain Oni Olubodunde, gave a breakdown of the recovered weapons.

He enumerated the recoveries as 34 AK-47 rifles, five locally made pistols, six pump-action guns, one locally made gun, one Browning cannon, and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.

Five locally made submachine guns, 15 single-barrel arms, a double-barrel firearm, a PKMG, an AK-47 rifle, a revolver, and a hand grenade are some of the other seized weapons.

“The troops confiscated 970 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 41 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, 59 rounds of 7.6mm NATO ammunition, 84 rounds of M16 ammunition, and 84 shotgun cartridges,” he added.

Commending the Brigade’s efforts, Oyinlola praised the troops for their commitments and urged them to intensify operations against criminal elements in the state.

He also reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring peace in Taraba and tackling security threats such as banditry, kidnapping, among other vices.

During a briefing with Taraba State governor Agbu Kefas, the GOC acknowledged the government’s support in enhancing security efforts.

He further directed the Brigade Commander to strengthen operations against armed bandits and other criminal activities in the region.

Oyinlola further emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies and the state government, highlighting the importance of unity in addressing security challenges and ensuring the safety of residents.
