Nigerian troops on clearing operations in Zamfara State have eliminated the notorious bandit kingpin called ‘Yellow Aboki.’
Yellow Aboki was closely linked with the late terrorism mastermind, Hassan Bamamu.
Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad region counter-insurgency expert, disclosed this on Monday in a post on his X handle.
Makama explained that security sources informed him that Yellow Aboki was shot in a recent exchange of fire with soldiers of Operation FANSAN YANMA along the northwestern axis of Tsafe LGA.
The breakthrough comes a week after the army’s successful operation to eliminate Hassan Dantawaye, who was popularly known as Bamamu.
Bamamu was also a well-known bandit leader and one of Yellow Aboki’s closest allies.
Makama wrote in the report that Yellow Aboki had been consolidating grip on criminal enterprises in Zamfara following the demise of Hassan Nabamamu.
The security consultant said the terrorist was operating in the Bamamu, Dan Mali, Agamalafiya, and Makera areas, where he planned fatal attacks and kidnappings.
“The military sustained its crackdown on bandit kingpins in identified enclaves in Zamfara, Sokoto and other troubled areas in the North West.
“The sustained pressure has diminished the capacity pf the bandits to confront the troops instead, they had resorted to pockets of attacks within vulnerable communities with less security coverage,” Makama said.
