Breaking from tradition, the union opted not to hold the usual march-past celebration at Isaac Boro Park—a venue that has historically hosted the state’s Workers’ Day activities. Instead, the NLC shifted the event to its secretariat, citing ongoing concerns about the erosion of democratic governance in the state.
The decision to alter the venue aligns with a directive from the national leadership of the NLC, and comes amid the political crisis involving the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Professor Ngozi Odu, and elected members of the State House of Assembly.
Union leaders said the move was not just symbolic but a strong statement of protest, reflecting their commitment to defending democracy and institutional integrity in Rivers State.
