The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested five individuals suspected of vandalizing and stealing from public institutions across the state.
According to a statement released by NSCDC spokesperson SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi and signed on behalf of the State Commandant, Shafi’u Abdulmumini, four of the suspects—Abdulbasi Usman (19), Yahaya Isa (20), Abubakar Sadiq Abdullahi (20), and Adamu Murtala (20)—were apprehended for breaking into and looting two government secondary schools: GSS Unguwar Rimi and GSS Unguwa Uku.
Items recovered from the suspects include roofing sheets, iron rods, buckets, 20 three-seater cushion chairs, mats, windows, ceiling fans, teaching materials, and vital documents. The NSCDC stated that further efforts are ongoing to trace and recover additional items, including those reportedly sold to a known buyer who is currently under investigation.
In a separate operation, a 17-year-old suspect, Alasan Inusa from Dambatta Local Government Area, was arrested for allegedly stealing components of electrical infrastructure. Items recovered from him include six insulators, a 3-meter aluminum cable, nuts, and brass parts.
The NSCDC confirmed that investigations into the cases have been concluded and legal proceedings against the suspects will begin shortly.
