NUJ Kaduna State to Observe Three-Day Mourning for Late Journalist

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kaduna State Chapter, has proclaimed a three-day mourning period beginning tomorrow, Monday, August 19th, 2024, and ending Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, in memory of a journalist, Comrade Jacob Haruna Zango, who died while on duty.

In a statement made in Kaduna, the Council Chairman, Comrade Asmau Yawo Halilu, and the Secretary, Comrade Gambo Santos Sanga, described Zango’s death as heartbreaking and a significant loss to the Council.

According to the statement, the national union saw his sacrifices as important to the NUJ’s growth and development at both the state and national levels.

It hailed Zango as a perfect gentleman who advocated for truth, equity, justice, and fair play among practicing journalists, and begged that God Almighty grant him everlasting peace and the family the strength to suffer the irreparable loss.

It urged media practitioners in Kaduna State to band together and help one another, particularly in areas of human needs, and emphasized that the late Haruna Zango will be dearly missed for his humility and respect for everybody.

Following a brief illness, Comrade Jacob Haruna Zango died on Thursday at the age of 56 in Kafanchan, the administrative headquarters of Jema’a LGA in Kaduna State.

Until his death, Zango worked as a News Editor for the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC) Kafanchan Sub-Station.

The late Zango also served as Assistant Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council for two terms.

He married a woman and had four children.

He will be buried on August 23, 2024, in his birthplace of Uruhobo (Abuyab) in Zangon-Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following a Christian wake-keep service on Thursday at the Triumphant Baptist Church, Maraban-Rido in Chikun LGA of Kaduna State.
