The National Youth Service Corps, or NYSC, has initiated a free medical outreach in the Zalanga village of Bauchi State’s Ganjuwa Local Government Area, as part of efforts to address health issues and enhance healthcare access for rural communities.
Speaking at the start of the one-day outreach, Rifkatu Yakubu, the State NYSC Coordinator, said that the project is part of the NYSC Health project for Rural Dwellers.
According to Yakubu, the plan aims to improve access to high-quality healthcare in Nigeria’s distant and rural communities.
She stated that the outreach would benefit around 500 community residents by providing free treatment for diseases like as malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diarrhea, cholera, and diabetes.
The state coordinator also stated that instances outside the Corps’ medical volunteers’ competence will be forwarded to more specialized hospitals.
“This exercise aims to provide medical assistance and free medications to the less privileged in the community,” Yakubu told me.
She also urged religious and community leaders to assist the NYSC’s efforts to improve healthcare service nationally.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Alhaji Yusuf Mohammed, the village chief, thanked the initiative for bringing the activity to their area.
He stated that the outreach would greatly address the people’s health concerns, and that the initiative would also go a long way toward assisting people from nearby communities in accessing healthcare services that they may not have previously had access to.
“The entire people of Zalanga are entirely grateful to the scheme for the kind gesture and I would like to call on the members of the community to come out so as to benefit from this exercise,” added the minister.
