Oyo APC Gets Acting Chairman

Following the demise of the late Isaac Omodewu on Monday, Mr Moshood Olayide-Abas has been sworn in as Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo State.

Until he was declared acting chairman, Olayide-Abas was the party’s Deputy State Chairman.

The late Omodewu and the new acting chairman, among other members of APC’s State Executive Committee, were elected at the party’s last state convention in October 2021.

Abas was appointed interim chairman following his ratification by the state executive committee, a statement issued by the publicity secretary, Olawale Sadare said.

It explained that members had ratified the agreement during an emergency meeting in Ibadan on Monday.

“Following the transition of our former state chairman, the Constitution of our great party has placed on us the onus to fill the vacuum by elevating the Deputy State Chairman to the post of Acting Chairman and this is exactly what the SEC has done.

“The new Acting Chairman belongs to the category of leaders of the Progressives with an intimidating track record of service as a professional and a politician.

“Olayide-Abas, a certified pharmacist, started his active political career with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the 70s and he was a direct trainee under the late Uncle Bola Ige.

“In 1991, he emerged as Executive Chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area (LGA), which was later split into Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North LGAs.

“He was also appointed the Chairman, Oyo State Hospital Management Board during the first term of the late Sen. Abiola Ajimobi.

“In addition, he held various party positions at the state level between 2004 and 2009 under the defunct Action Congress (AC) and later Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN),” the party added.
