Police Arrest Five Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Weapons in Rivers

Rivers State Police Command arrested five alleged kidnappers in the wake of reliable intelligence regarding their operations and hideouts.

The State Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, told newsmen in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that operatives also took over a stash of rifles and ammunition from the suspects.

Iringe-Koko swore that the suspects were connected to other Rivers abductions, alongside last week’s murder of Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Chief Security Officer.

Suspects arrested by the police included Bello Amadu, 35; Mohammadu Bello, 30; Adamu Musa, 30; Suleman Umar, 26; and Abubakar Mohammed, 22.

The police spokesperson explained that the operation took approximately eight hours before the suspected kidnappers were caught.

“The suspects were arrested following a series of kidnapping incidents in Rukpokwu, Igwuruta, Omagwa, and Etche communities, which prompted the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command to take swift action,” she stated.

She said that following actionable intelligence, police operatives carried out a coordinated operation in the communities, resulting in the arrest of the perpetrators on Saturday.

She defined the weapons arrested from the suspects, including two AK-47 firearms, six AK-47 magazines, 66 live ammunition, and ten live cartridges.

Others include three homemade guns, various mobile phones, and SIM cards.
