The Niger State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers who were found with two locally made pistols and a Dane gun in Rijau, located in the Rijau Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement, the state’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended on April 12, 2025, by police operatives from the Rijau Division. The arrested individuals have been identified as Shehu Mohammed, 35; Mamman Sani; Daudu Mohammed, 37; and Jibrin Ahmodu, all from the Rijau LGA.
Abiodun said that preliminary investigations revealed the suspects had kidnapped a woman from Angwan-Gwanda village in Rijau within the past month. However, the victim managed to escape and later identified one of the kidnappers, leading to the capture of the others.
“The suspects confessed to the crime and they are under investigation. All will be charged in court for prosecution after the investigations,” Abiodun stated.
In a separate operation, Abiodun revealed that police operatives intercepted a trailer truck at Garima Junction, Bosso, with the registration number NDG 161 XA, which was carrying 900 bags of cement worth over N9 million. The cement was suspected to have been diverted from its intended destination in Maiduguri, Borno State.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was a motor boy to the driver of the truck, Ibrahim Yusuf, who is at large, that they conspired with one other and removed the truck with intent to sell the cement, abandon the truck and escape before he was arrested,” Abiodun said.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that the motor boy was charged with criminal conspiracy and theft on April 9 and sentenced to ten months’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.
“Efforts are ongoing to arrest and prosecute the driver at large. The cement truck was released to the company’s representative through a court order,” he added.
