Police Arrest Goldsmith with Stolen Cables in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a suspected vandal, Aliyu Kira, 27, a goldsmith from Bangi in the Mariga Local Government Area.

The suspect was arrested during a night patrol on the Kwimo-Gulbin Boka Road.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said Kira was stopped on a motorcycle but did not stop when police officers signaled him to do so on March 6, 2025, at about 2 a.m.

“Other teams ahead were alerted, and he was forcefully arrested later,” Abiodun revealed.

He revealed that during the search, a sack was discovered containing 100 cut-to-size aluminum cables, which were found to be vandalized electrical cables cunningly concealed to avoid security screening.

Among other items found were 12 kettles, one carton of chocolate, six packs of chewing gum, and a hacksaw, which Kira used to camouflage himself as a scavenger.

Kira admitted to burning the wires used in the production of aluminum pots for his company.

The suspect has been taken to the Minna police command for questioning and prosecution.
