Baba Azare, Police Commissioner, Akwa Ibom State Command, has ordered a thorough probe of allegations of police brutality and extortion leveled against Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, students.
This was after the students protested on Monday, which disrupted classes at the institution.
The police, in their turn, sat down with the school administration, the Students’ Union Government (SUG), and other delegates to discuss problems and improve relations between the police and students.
DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, read a statement of the command’s commitment to the protection of human rights and safety of students.
She promised any officer found wanting in misconduct would be punished.
John also disclosed that security was being improved by intelligence-led operations to safeguard the security of the host populace.
The CP appealed for ongoing coordination between the students and the police in a bid to provide peace and security.
