President Bola Tinubu Re-elected ECOWAS Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has been re-elected as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Tinubu was re-elected at the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government’s 65th Ordinary Session, which took place on Sunday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tinubu emphasized the importance of meeting the advice of defense ministers in order to combat insecurity and stabilize the region.

“As we move to operationalise the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) in combating terrorism, I must emphasise that the success of this plan requires not only strong political will but also substantial financial resources,” he advised the audience.

“We must thus ensure that we achieve the expectations and suggestions set out by our defense and finance ministers in order to combat insecurity and stabilize our region.

“Member states must make extra commitments to providing resources for stabilising the region,” he further stated.
