Russian drone strikes late Tuesday caused widespread destruction across eastern Ukraine, setting buildings ablaze and leaving no fewer than 22 people injured.
In the Donetsk region, which remains a central hotspot along the 1,000-kilometer front line of the war now stretching beyond three years, the city of Kramatorsk saw a residential neighborhood come under heavy attack.
Local authorities reported that “three people, including a child, were injured” in the incident.
Ukraine’s air force stated it had successfully intercepted “32 out of 55 drones” launched by Russian forces overnight.
Officials added that “another eight did not reach their targets, most likely because of electronic countermeasures.” There was no information provided regarding the fate of the remaining 15 drones.
In southeastern Ukraine’s Dnipro, Governor Serhiy Lysak reported via Telegram that the attack led to a major fire, damaged multiple homes and vehicles, and injured “15 people.” He noted that “half of the injured were in hospital and one woman was in serious condition.”
The strike also damaged “four high-rise residential buildings and 15 private residences,” as well as “an administrative building and infrastructure.”
The northeastern city of Kharkiv faced yet another barrage, continuing a week-long trend of almost nightly drone attacks. Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed that there had been “more than 20 strikes.”
“This is our enemy’s new tactic to frighten the civilians. This (the attacked objects) is civilian infrastructure of the city, these are production enterprises, these are Kharkiv’s businessmen. Of course, they are scared,” Terekhov said.
