On Friday, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized the importance of taking productive action rather than protest.
Shettima announced this during a high-level meeting with the Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He announced the Federal Government’s participation in the Grand Challenges Nigeria (GCNg) Project, a global health initiative focused at reducing malnutrition and food insecurity in Nigeria.
According to NAN, the initiative, which is being carried out in conjunction with the Nutrition Society of Nigeria, aims to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion while addressing public health and food system concerns.
Shettima acknowledged Nigerians’ hardship as a result of recent economic reforms, particularly the reduction of gasoline subsidies.
“Now is the moment for us to fix our problems, not protest. The freedom to protest is protected in most democracies across the world.
“But when you can start an agitation and don’t know where it will lead, it’s a recipe for anarchy.
“We understand what Nigerians are going through, and our hearts go out to them.” For the past 50 years, oil subsidies have been an albatross around our neck.
