Sokoto Fire Burns Shops, Grains to Ashes

A terrible fire reduced Sokoto State’s renowned Kara Market, whose mainstay was grains and delicious wares, to ashes.

The fire consumed the entire market, reducing dozens of grain warehouses and shops to ashes.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Regardless of the effort by the state fire department, the inferno was too strong to suppress.

The residents of the area and business people scampered to shift their goods, expecting the fire to come closer.

This is the second case of fire outbreak at Kara Market in recent weeks. The grinding section had earlier been burnt and the state government had to bring relief to the traders affected.

The Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has begun preliminary estimates to assess the financial effects of the disaster and initiate relief for injured merchants.
