Following the abduction of a farm estate owner, Olanrewaju Oyeleye, and his manager, the people of Osi village in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State have become more apprehensive.
The abductors invaded the farm at the weekend and took the two victims away, the sources explained. The estate is just a few km from Akure Airport.
One of the family sources, who did not want to be named, added that the abductors had made contact and demanded a ransom of N100 million before letting the victims go.
The airport axis of Akure is today a dreaded zone, with kidnappers and other criminals making adjacent towns target venues for their activities.
Oyeleye, 50 years old, one family source stated, relocated from overseas four years ago to move to Akure and establish the mechanised farm.
Confirming the incident, Adetunji Adeleye, Amotekun Commander in the state, said operatives had been deployed to rescue the victims and arrest the kidnappers, adding, “Our men are working day and night to ensure the victims are rescued from the kidnappers, as we are tracking their location.”
Meanwhile, people of Akure North, particularly in the Oba-Ile, Osi, and Eleyewo axes, have been filled with fear and anxiety since the recent occurrences, which have been compounded by the constant kidnappings.
When the news of the kidnapping of Oyeleye and his manager reached town, other farmers fled their farms in a rush and returned home.
