A 29-person Team Ogun committee has been established by the Ogun State government in preparation for the upcoming 22nd National Sports Festival, often known as the “Gateway Games 2024.”
It is anticipated that the competition will happen on Sunday, January 12, 2025, and Sunday, January 26, 2025.
This was announced on Friday during the opening ceremony held in the Sports Hall of the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Abeokuta, by Commissioner for Sports Development Wasiu Isiaka.
Isiaka stated that the festival, which is one of the biggest events on the national sports calendar, aims to bring Nigerian youngsters together, irrespective of their political, religious, or ethnic backgrounds.
He revealed that the state was awarded the hosting rights as a result of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s efforts to provide a strong framework for the growth of sports.
He revealed that the government would work with pertinent stakeholders, use cutting-edge technologies, and provide first-rate security and medical services for the safety and well-being of all athletes, coaches, and officials, all while guaranteeing that the governor would provide the required infrastructure, facilities, and lodging for a fitting festival.
According to the commissioner, the committee is tasked with managing the festival’s operations and ensuring that it runs well for the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. He exhorted participants to contribute their vast experience and knowledge in order to create a festival of the highest caliber.
He declared, “The committee would collaborate with me as Commissioner to assemble and field a strong team that can represent the Gateway State in the various sports.”
Distinguished sportsmen and women, media professionals, sports administrators, and technocrats compose the committee. Chief Falilat Ogunkoya, Prince Tunji Onatolu, Alh. Ganiu Majekodunmi, Mr. Adesola Faleti, and Biodun Alabi are among the others.
Speaking on behalf of the other committee members, Tunji Onatolu thanked the state government for allowing them to serve and pledged to put in a lot of effort to make sure the festival runs smoothly.
